Top Tip 9: Find Business Friends
Running a business can be a lonely life as you are busy delivering the products or services to clients as well as everything needed to run a successful business. It can be very easy to isolate yourself to concentrate solely on your business – this is especially the case if you work from home.
This is why it is really important to take the time to actively meet other people to connect and build relationships.
Face to face networking events
There will be a number of different networking opportunities available in your area, just do a search on Google or ask your clients what events they attend and would recommend you go to.
There will be 2 main types of events you can attend:
Membership based groups who have 1 person per category and the opportunity to present your business for anything from 40 seconds to one minute at each meeting (organisations like The Athena Network, BNI, BRX etc). These meetings run to a specific agenda each meeting and you will get to know the other members in a relatively short amount of time as the same people will be attending.
Open to anyone to attend and you are left to yourself to mingle and talk to others (organisations like Chamber of Commerce, business club etc). You will meet a variety of different people as there is no requirement for people to attend each meeting.
Don’t be afraid to go outside your local area to meet people – think about business conferences, seminars etc.
Online networking forums
Can network at a time to suit you, day or night so make use of it. It is also quicker to build relationships online than it is face to face. There are a variety of groups available so do some research to find something that suits you.
This is a great way for you to connect with your target market, industry peers as well as people who share similar interests to you. Think about Twitter and Facebook and you can soon start connecting with others.
