Welcome to a brand new blog series where I’m going to share with you some AWESOME business mums who are totally rocking it!!

Today it’s all about Sarah …

What is the biggest challenge you face as a mum and business owner?

Balancing working and being a mum. It can be easy to work when my son is at home after school / evenings and weekends. Sometimes without meaning to, I do work evenings, and when he was younger that was after his bed time. Now he likes me to work in the evening with clients as he gets to go to bed slightly later!

What do you think is the biggest transferrable skills from mum and business?

Just one?!

Leadership – you lead your family and those skills go straight across into your business

For example you’re a role model for your kids in the same way you are for your clients and employees

What do you think to the term ‘mumpreneur’? Love it, hate it, don’t care it’s just a word, don’t resonate with it

I don’t resonate with it. I think it down plays what you are doing. You are an entrepreneur / business owner in the same way a man is so I don’t think we need a different word

How do you deal with curve balls?

Panic for a few minutes, then break it down, look at what needs doing and put a plan in place

What do you wish you knew then that you know now?

That working on my mindset is just as important, if not more so, that learning skills

What are your top tip for other mums in business?

Be part of a supportive network

Don’t listen to people who tell you you can’t do it

Get a mentor or coach early on, they make a huge difference

Believe in yourself

Be organised and have clear boundaries for yourself and your clients

How old are your children?

13

Do they go to school or are you home schooling?

My son goes to school

All About Sarah

Sarah Fisher is a single adoptive mum, passionate about helping other families experiencing difficulties

I adopted a gorgeous little boy and together we have been on a journey of discovery. It hasn’t been an easy road, more a roller coaster, but I’m so glad I chose to adopt and I wouldn’t turn the clock back for anything

During my journey I’ve learnt to support my son with his anxiety and have stopped some of his unacceptable behaviours

These weren’t because he is a naughty or horrible child because he’s not, but he was very distressed, due to past trauma, and anxious and didn’t know how to show his emotions

Through the use of Non-Violent Resistance (NVR) we have changed our family around and my son is now more confident and understands how to appropriately express his emotions

It hasn’t been an easy or smooth road, but we’ve come through it and I’m passionate about helping other families do the same
